Am looking at stock looking chrome valve covers. The ones I'm looking at don't have drip rails? Are these important? Did the stock ones have them?
IMHO, the drippers are important if you are running the stock type rocker arms. They do exactly what they are called: Provide a way for oil to drip down onto the rocker arm fulcrums to prevent galling. Chevy spent the extra money to add the drippers for a reason.
I bought my valve covers from Noah Performance out of Long Island, NY for $99. They're real nice reproductions of my originals and they have drippers. The only way you could tell them apart from the originals is that the chrome plating is MUCH nicer on the re-pops.
Don't forget to get the relief for the power brake booster if you have one.
