Fuel tank capacity?
Hello!
It was a pleasure to meet all of you folks at the forum at Carlisle. My question is that my 77 has a 17 gallon tank
and my friend has a 78 which he claims has a 22+ gallon tank. Is this possible? I know that there was a change
from the 77 to the 78 but a 5 gallon change is considerable. How many gallon tank do you have?

Most I've ever been able to get in my '70 is 17 gallons. Of course instead of the build sheet I pulled a paper tag from UPS off the top of the tank dated 1982. :( ~Juliet

Yes, there were a lot of changes to 78 including a much larger gas tank & less space for a spare. A temp. was used.
The gas guage is extremely accurate on mine. Would expect same for yours.

If my info is correct, 76 & 77 use the same tank - 18 gallon w/internal bladder
78 - 82 use the same tank - 23.7 gallon w/internal liner
according to the interchange manual the part numbers are:
76-77 #348366
78-83 #457999
