Minor weight variations of a spinning object have less effect on the balance the closer it is to the center. So welding on a spacer is not a big deal. Especially if it's aluminum.
I will come out to Bonneville Sept 13 - 16th.
Right now i'm a little pissed at myself for having to pull my 427 out. I managed to bend a rod. I hope that the forged crank is straight. I have a extra set of 6 inch H beams that came with a 3.875 stroker 415 ci rotating kit. So I just have to grind it for cam clearance reweight it to get it the same weight and polish the beams
My other choice is have the 415 ci rotating kit balanced and install it in the Motown block or just install my spare 383 that is a complete less my carb and dist. It was runnning perfect when i pulled it out.
with above. Adapters have to be 1" thick so that the lug nuts don't stick out. The front hub is conical so you'll have to modify the front adapters anyways. I used a file to make them fit, a lathe would be easier. There's a seller on Ebay who sells these for around $75/pair. VBP sells adapters, too but I'm not sure if those are hubcentric.
Here's what my adapters look like (this is the rear axle):
RedBad - I apologize for getting off topic here, but did you add adaptors to your '79 to move your wheels and tires out to the edge of the fenderwalls without going to a wider rim? It looks like you have P255-60s on the front and P275-60s on the rear on the YJ8 rims. I have a 1974 with the same rims and have wanted to do the same thing. Do you have any more pictures of your set-up?

I've changed my tires since then.... The old photos show 275-60-15 tires on the stock alus. I moved the wheel outwards 1" to clear the emerggency brake cable bracket and the spring.
It did fit very good, the tire wasn't sticking out past the fender and I had plenty of clearance.
Here's some more photos of the old setup:

Here's the current setup (245-60-15 front and 295-50-15 rear with 1"spacer/adapter front and rear):

Ah crap George - thats too bad. We just got the news that the crank in scotts car was bent beyond repair - so we are getting a new crank and connecting rods this week - we will have all the rotating stuff balanced!
