Fuel tank went bad in my 78 today, Does anybody run a fuel cell in their 78-82? What make and model? I am specifically looking at a 16+ gallon unit.
I have look through Summit's site and have a couple(sum-290100, RCI-1211C) that may fit dimensionally but not sure on the fuel filler location wil match up close to the fuel filler door.
What are your thoughts on Foam filled units for a street car that will run the odd 1/4 mile and solo 2 event?
I have a 32 gallon ATL fuel cell in mine. It required some mods but if it weren't for the container it would have fit (the flanges are the problem) so a 22 gallon one should fit. Youwill have to fabricate a filler tube using an angled neck and an extention where the fuel cap screws on to.
Mine is foam filled, no problem. The foam degradation is usually a result of running on alky. Make sure you get a cell where you can use a level sender tube, they are available in the 0-90 ohm style.
I significantly lowered my fuel cell to lower the cg, this also gives more room for the plumbing of the filler setup.
Yeah I'll probably have to lower the tank to to fit the filler neck. I'm looking locally for some custom welding shop to make a custom one to see if I can get one the right size to maintain my fuel capacity.
The Fuel sender is the problem with the RCI as it doesn't have one.
I've been wondering how the supply line is actually ported into the tank on those generic units. Is there an AN threaded outlet already installed, or can you put one wherever you want?
