I have a 76, no power windows, no power locks.
Recently purchased this car and not sure what the previous owner messed with.
The drivers door will lock with a key but, you cannot open it with a key.
Looks like new latch assembly was put in. Could it be that all the adjusting arms need to be tweaked? or could it be a bad key lock.
i would remove the door panel and check the adjustment, and lubrication of latch assy. and rods. maybe shoot some lub. in the keyhole in the lock and sticjk the key in there and work it around.
When I repaired my door the outside locks worked fine until I put the inside lock **** back on. Now I can't unlock the pass side door from the outside. Since it worked before putting the **** on, I think it is because the inside lock **** is rubbing/dragging on the door panel. I have not figured out how to fix this yet.
The driver side does not have the **** on it yet, when I got the car I could not get the **** to line up and have not had reason to pull the panel. This side works from the key lock just fine.
Try removing the inside **** and seeing if that allows the door to lock from the outside.
I have the inner door panel off. I did try spraying the lock, etc. What I did notice was that when I turned the lock counter clockwise, it did lock. When turning it the other way it goes quite a ways with no resistance. It acts like there is nothing attached.
Could it be a bad lock cyclinder , even though it locks. Or does it sound like the linkage is not attached correctly?
it has a link to Corvette Fever Magazine that shows some photos of what the lock mechanish should look like. If I remember correctly, there is a rod that runs horizontally from the inner lock **** to a pivot. From the pivot, there is a rod that runs to the door lock/latch. There is also another rod running from the inner door lock **** behind the inner dor panel to the cylinder. Make sure all 3 of these are attached. It sounds like one may have come loose.
