Driving to Fort Worth, there was a convoy of ricers that passed me. There were a couple of Hondo's, a mitsu and a :chevy cav. Traffic was kind of heavy and I was just cruising along not even thinking about them when all of a sudden they were next to me flexing their fart pipes. Sounded like the grass cutting crew in our local park weed eating. Well thats all I could stand and traffic was lite so I WOT'd my 71 Convetible with a ZZ4 and......Oh how they became specs in my rear view mirror. What do they think they have??? I know there are some fast one's out there but 99.999999999999999999999999999999% (ran out of 9's) are just pure junk.

Why is it that all the ricers in my town get the women? Most girls around here look at guys with "real" fast cars and think we're hicks or rednecks. And they all hang around guys with ricers and crotch rockets. URGH! :cuss

You are gonna have to do something about that 305! :U You need a ZZ-4 or a ZZ-430 and 3.70 gears. Then you can boil the tires a few times next to some of those rice burners (side pipes or open headers would help too!)

hey....i'd just like to say, I am a proud ricer. I don't have a big wing, I don't have a huge shift light, I don't have a huge monster tach, I don't have stickers, and I don't think my car is fast. My dad has 2 vettes and I know what's up. I do think my car looks good though, I have a V6 two door accord which is an auto because that's all they make and my parents didn't want me in an I4 or a smaller car. I have put 18" konig tantrum (7 spoke) rims on it (not chrome, just silver) with 40 profile tires, a 2.5" drop all around from H&R race coil springs, performance shocks, 2 JL 12W3 speakers and a cadence amp, cold air intake, and soon comptech headers. I pride myself on making my car look smooth. I don't have cheesy clear tail lights or anything like that. My friends and I all try to get our cars to look smooth, but we all know our role. Do i pull up to vettes and rev on them? yes. Do i expect to win? no. I do it only to see a vette or a viper or a porsche being pushed to the max. It's not to often you see a vette take off off the line and floor that accelerator. And some of us "ricers" do have fast cars. My friend's integra GSR runs 13.2. He has it supercharged with a full body kit and shaved door handles. Not a sticker or big spoiler on the thing anywhere. Some of us have class and style, and granted there are those that don't....and hey, we make fun of them too....

 

Then you are not a "ricer" !!

You are an import sports car owner. And you are proud enough and smart enough to not make the car dorky looking like a ricer would.

If you "Know what's up" :confused: then get a real performance car like a older camaro or something. Compact cars look stupid with big wheels and mufflers. I don't think you get it at all. Yor ricers are all the same, you don't think your cars are fast but you spend thousands on making them look fast. I don't get it. There are plenty of good old F body cars real cheap out there and for the same amout of money you spend on a $16,000 Honda the spend another $2,000 to $4,000 to make it look "SMOOTH" you could have one he*& :reddevil of an 80's F body car. Just check out any of the magazines like Popular Hot Rodding or Car Craft. Now go back to your ricer forum..............be gone with you.....................RICER. Oh by the way didn't you read that I know there are some fast ones out there. Nitrous and superchargers will make a mini van fast. Normally aspirated is the sigh of true street perfomance IMO.

You guys may think this is foolish, but I think the reason for the F-bodies demise has a lot to do with the constant stereotyping done by "comedians" and daytime TV talk shows. Their owners are constantly portrayed as stupid, inbred, knuckle-dragging, woman-abusing white trash drunks who all live in trailer parks and have mullet hairdos. I wonder what would happen if these same "comedians" and talk show hosts talked about all blacks as sitting on logs eating watermelons, or asians as all having buck teeth and poor eyesight? Unfortunately, the only "unprotected" class left for all-out ridicule is working class white America. These same talk show hosts have a huge influence over females, and are probably also the reason girls may seem to shun these owners. My 2c.

 

Many thanks to 'c5vette98' as he has answered one of my questions posted in the forum a few weeks ago. I had asked what's up
with these guys revving their engines up beside me and went on to say can't they hear the cam lope sound coming from my tailpipes.

I got a little preterberated :eek: at a Honda beside me doing this and pulled away a little faster thatn normal and the next thing I know
is this guy is revving it up to about 24,000 RPM and gets rubber in second. Well that was enough for me and I matted it in second and he
was just a speck in the mirror in a matter of seconds.

The thing that I really couldn't figure out was, a few lights later he was up beside me and ready to get his doors blown off again. This time
I revved it up a little and he was off to the races by himself. :D

 

I have a new found respect for ricers. We have a local tuning shop that will put a turbo on anything. There is another one on the otherside of town that is in constant competition with my local one. They don't even pay attention to Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros :smash:

Anyway, I have seen a couple of these Hondas up close at the local Autox events. One of them is pushing 375 hsp, has ice cold air, and will run the socks of a Z06.

And, yes, they have the stickers, wings, rims, lights, etc all over them just like the 99% of the fakers. All it takes is one to leave you in the dust and you will be less likely to egg any of them on.

The thing is, if we did 1/4th of the things they do to those ricers to the vettes, we would all be pushing 500 hsp. Most Vetters are afraid to hack up the car, or loose the original equipment. The ricers have no fear, and no worry of the resale value.

I used to be a ricer.....I had a hopped up Honda CRX S-i.....This was in 1986 ..So I was way ahead of the Sushi Curve.........I loved that car and with stcok engine with ehaust mods.....I could beat any stock mid 70's corvette that I ran.....I never had the stupid add-ons cause they did not make them then.....
My point is that Ricers generally have these cars cause that is what Mom nd Dad Let them have.....My parents didn't trust me in a vette or a Camaro and guess what?? They were right....I would have killed myself....Not all Ricers are bad and not all vette drivers are good......My.02 :cheers:

 

Theandies has a point. I recently made the decision to get an older, cheap used car for a daily driver because I want to direct more of my $ to some fun stuff instead of a new car payment. I had three criteria that I wanted to meet for this used daily ride; cheap, a manual trans, and somewhat fast by todays standards. The car I came up with was a late 80s F-body with a 305 (230hp) TPI/5-speed combo. I got lucky and found one in less than a month about 45 minutes from my house. Paid $3500 for an 89 Firebird Formula in very good condition with 83k that met all three of my criteria. Haven't had it to the strip yet, but its not uncommon for these 305 TPI/5-speed cars to run mid 14 second quarters stock.

So, I guess the point I'd like to make is that the argument frequently used by teenagers for buying Hondas and such (They can't afford a used car with a V8) has no merit. How many stock late 80s Hondas that run 14 sec quarters with under 100k on them can you buy for $3500?

The reason that most kids don't buy F-bods and Stangs is that they aren't mainstream cool anymore... too old school. That's ok, I guess that means there will be more clean cars like my Bird out there for old-schoolers like me. ;)

 

The kids don't buy the Vettes and Camaros cause their mommies won't let them. :cry

alright, let me try to put it to you this way....I had some say in what car I got...I narrowed it down to two nice family cars that I figured I could do a fair amount of modifying and work to to suit my tastes. A new trans am was my first choice car my parents scratched that idea outta my head before I even turned 15. I realized that if i wanted any chance of getting a car and having my parents chip in for it and pay insurance and gas that i needed something that would not be overly expensive for either gas or insurance. A sports car, a teenager and an insurance company don't mix. As for gas you guys know that it wouldn't get nearly the gas mileage of my honda. And safety? I've never seen an F-body with side airbags and all sorts of other nifty features that make my parents feel safe when I'm out driving. As Alwyn678 said: "My parents didn't trust me in a vette or a Camaro and guess what?? They were right....I would have killed myself" I feel the same way. Everyone of my friends that has gotten an F-body has been in an accident...my friend just recently totalled his 2k1 trans am by smashing it into a tree while it was wet out. So I drive a honda, partially by choice, and you know what? I make the best of it...

 

You nailed it right there. Some ricers will beat stock Vettes. Bottom line...it takes as much work and money to make an Acura pull 350hp as it does to make a Vette to 500.

Let us compare apples to apples here. In stock trim, no new import that is 'hip' today stands a snowball's chance in hell against a bone-stock Z06 in a dead 1/4. The sad thing is that cars 25 years old and older are spanking the hell out of brand new imports, with all their attitude, high technology and gaudy stickers. And they're doing it with minimal modification. A poll was run a while ago, and we learned that some 40% of the members of this C3 forum ran 13s, so one Acura that will is not special at all. And none of those guys *needed* a supercharger to do it.

Most pressing of all questions I have for ricers is this one: how does the wing help a car driven by its front wheels? ;)

 

Man I have had a few ricers try to race me in my Vettes but let me tell you it is nothing like driving a Supra around. I have fartpipes revving at me from everywhere, other streets... parking lots... cars going the other direction. Unbelievable.

UltimateAlternativeWaver, That's a bold statement about the Z06. Remember Ferraris, Porsches, etc are imports.

As far as money and work vs horsepower goes. I have only put a downpipe and exhaust on the Supra, about $600 total. I up the boost by pulling a hose (free), put in good gas, launch w/ 5lbs of boost, and it runs 11s. It's only a tad slower than my black Vette. But I must admit the Supra falls in the .000000000000000000001% catagory of imports.

the comment about the Zo6 verse a ferrari or porsche is kinda like this

For 55,000 dollars you get a Zo6 that will whoop tail on most porsche that are 75,000 (yeah the ones I call glorified volkswagen :jester ) And for 60,000 you have a Zo6 that will run with ferrais (well a few :chevy ) but most people would say is apples and oranges it really isnt besides money. A vette and a porsche sitting side by and choosing which one you want with money not being an issue I would still take a Zo6 because its american and just plain looks better (except for the butt on that car :U )even if there are a bunch off them on the street.

And any ricer who will stand and tell us that they would rather drive a piece of *** Crap (or and econo box) instead of Vette/camaro/firebird/impala(old)/nova(old)/Gto/cuda/charger then they can drive the piece of crap *** econo car.

But yet Honda is capable of a performance car NSX wich doenst hold a stick to the ZO6 for almost twice as much. Not to forget the Supra and skyline by toyota

It comes down to a matter of taste but people can be wierd yah know
