Default Corvette Rearend Question

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but I've read many of the posts and it sounds like there are a lot of really knowledgeable people on here. I was hoping I could get some answers about my corvette rear. I've got a 77 that I've put a Bill Mitchell sb 427 in. Does anyone know or have a guesstament what the hp and torque limits are with the stock rearend? Do you think I'm going to have problems with it, such as u-joints or anything? The motor is 530hp and 515 torque and I'm running a 2500 stall. If I am in trouble how hard is it to change the rear over to a 10 or 12 bolt. I know nothing about the rears. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks...

It really depends on if you put slicks on the back. If you don't have solid joints, go with them. If you want to upgrade the inner and outer axels to HD 30 & 31 spline you can do that as well but like I said, it depends on if your running slicks or not. That will determine what level of parts you need. Here are some of the HD kits.

I'm not going to be running slicks on it. So you think it's going to be alright with street tires then? I'll invest in some solid joints though. Thanks for your reply Van Steel, I appreciate it.

Dan has some good points. If you're just going to street drive it and hammer every once in a while with street tires then I'd use Spicer solids, stock spindles, add cap screws and maybe a steel bearing cap in the diff and tune and polish the carrier. That should hold up pretty good for what you want. Check to be sure the spiders are good and are the 10-17's, use solid clutches too otherwise the others will not last very long.
