The previous issue I had with mystery stalling did not go with the reconnection of the return line. Once again the motor is running very well but sudden stops and particularly hill stops are causing the poor idling and eventual stall which only make me think fuel is being pulled from the carby by momentum. When the car is hot and facing down the hill it starts but wont keep going. Is there a one way fuel valve or is this a bowl issue?
Perhaps placing the filter closer to carby intake may stop the issue?
I had this problem with the replacment Holley for my 69 BB. When breaking hard, fuel from the secondary bowl would flood the engine. I messed around with it for a while, but eventually went back to the Q-jet and I am happy with the performance. If this is your problem, you can adjust your secondary float to lower the fuel level. Regular Holley's, not the Q-jet replacement one, can also be fitted with a plastic tube that goes into the overflow vent to keep fuel out when tilted, but still alow correct float height.
A properly set up carb should make any eng run fine no matter what brand the carb is, some provide a little diff performance and need diff types of adj to make them run properly.
Do you have to pump the acc to start it after is stalls or hold you foot to the floor?
Pump the acc once it's stalled but it won't keep running. It's only when the engine is warm that I seem to have the issue at all.
I literally tun into my downward drive way after a cruise and it stalls.
As I roll forward into the garage and the car levels out it runs fine.
