try releasing your down stops that might take it out of the bind

was just trying to remember what preceded all this and I recalled that I took my son to his girlfriends in the vette and when he got out he really slammed the door pretty hard with the window down. When I got home the window wouldnt go up. Thats gotta be it, it got stuck when he slammed the door, makes about as much sense as anything else.

The window has stops at the bottom of each track.takes a 7/16 socket-just loosen them and let them slide down a bit sometimes it takes the bind off and lets the motor turn-make sure you put them back otherwise the window will go down too far

Wasnt 7/16 it was a large phillips head but it worked. Loosened the front one and nuthin, loosened the rear one and the glass jumped a little. Hit the key, pushed the switch and it worked . Got the window up. Was a PITA doing this in between rain showers but thx to all for the help especially dwncchs. Drivers side still doesnt work but that will be tomorrows project, I'll take that side door panel off and see whats going on in there. At least now both windows are up, thats what they make a/c for. Saved me a trip to the glass shop, you know they werent going to just loosen two screws, I was going for a motor at least.
Thx Again ESU

I'll post tomorrow when I take that side apart and hopefully with a little help from this forum I can get that fixed too. I owe u a beer dude!

Your Welcome glad it worked out ! Try to take your finger off the button before it hits bottom so it wont jamb again.A couple of things cause them to stick--the doors start to flex as they get older and jamb the motor. If you look at the motor when it hits bottom or top it will flex quite a bit.In some years the motor was bolted to that cover over the motor that seemed to help.Sometimes I think they end up with a bad spot on the armature. I think from the switch staying on after it hits bottom.I have taken the motor out and spun it over to a new spot and never had trouble again.Your other window might be the same problem(if the meter moves when you push the switch)-only its jambed "up".Good Luck

I had a similar problem with my passenger side window. When it went all the way down it would not go back up. The motor and switch were OK but the gear was sloppy so when it went full stop the gear locked up. I at first just hit the motor with my hand and it would go up so now I have changed to a new gear from Ecklers and it works just fine. To check if the gear is the problem just let the window down so about one inch is sticking above the door and see if it goes up, if so it is the gear not the switch or motor.

Thank You for the kind words and offer of a beer, who knows maybe someday we'll meet some place where there's lots of vettes and we can buy each other one. For 20 yrs and 3 months I did my best in the service of my city and I'd like to think country. 2 trade centers and the lungs of a 76 yr old man (I'm 46) later I'm enjoying retirement and working on my second career.
Again, thx for the kind words and assistance with the windows, keep the beer cold,

Sometimes I think I spend more time chasing power window problems than anything else. I have gotten where I can change the motors and gears without a road map, but talk about bleeding knuckles. It is not fun.

More than once when they have jammed, I have loosen up the motor, got the window moving and then retighten the motor. That lasts for a while. Right now when the right window is raised full up, there is still about a 1/4" gap at the top. Okay for some things, but not car washes or killing off wind noise. Again, for about the 100th time, I plan to spend half a day working on those windows again. Gotta love it.

I've got the same problem, front portion of the glass is about 1/3 inch short of the top.

I didn't have to replace my regulators.....just cleaned and lubed. I had this "how to" link in my bookmarks. Not sure how good it is, but thought I'd pass it along.

Hope this helps.

not to bad, you can do them both in an afternoon. I had to gring off the rivits that hold them in and replaced them with short bolts.

Read first and remember when you take that motor loose that regulator does a scissor effect and can take a finger off !!! New regulator usually comes with a bolt through it--look at it and see why its there.Mine from GM are in backwards(the bolt) and after you install you cant get it out-check that-this job is not too bad but can be a real PITA if your not careful--I have a scar on one wrist to prove it!!!! VERY strong spring!!
