Okay here is the deal I had a new 700r4 installed by Cheverolet dealer about a year ago. Recently when the transmission warms up it won't stay in overdrive. Anywhere from 70 to 85mph it constatly shifts in and out of overdrive, not smoothly either it almost feels like it's slipping. Any ideas on what this could be?
thanks
My guess would be the 3-4 clutch pack. That's what's wrong with mine, too, but not as severe. Unfortunately, the '82 700R4 is pretty weak, and that 3-4 clutch pack is one of the very weak spots.
If you want to just completely get rid of all your 700R4 headaches, look at http://www.thetrannydoctor.com and check out his 700R4. $999, comes with tranny cooler and stock torque converter. No core necessary, either.
is it going from 4th to 3rd,or are you losing lock-up in 4th gear? mine did this after i installed my 700r4,most notably when going up a hill at 70 mph. i used a TCI vacuum switch to achieve lock-up in my conversion, which i adjusted the setting to less vacuum required for lock-up and it has been fine since.
