My power steering is leaking , it looks as if it is coming from the relief valve. Ive tightened the valve but it doesnt stop turning, it feels snug, but it keeps turning. Its all dry around the pump, so I know that is not th problem. The fluid drops down from below the valve and I can see adrop form from the little valve, after I drive it for a while and it sits the fluid spot is large. Any suggestions. Thanks
I may be missing what you are saying, but if you tightened the nut at the end of the control valve, that was a no-no. That is for balancing the valve, and if you turned it alot, you messed it up. If it was leaking from there (or anywhere else on the valve, it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I replaced mine recently and your best bet is Advance Auto parts (www.partsamerica.com). $118 with core return, lifetime warranty. Don't get their $10 rebuild kit, it is incomplete. God bless, Sensei
The nut looks like a bleeder valve that is on a brake cylinder when you bleed brakes. I tightened it cause i saw fluid dripping from it. It must have been bad from the beginning. The hoses look oily too, I mightas well change those too. Thanks for the info
That is a grease zerk. I suspect that it was leaking from one of the fittings and draining to that point because it was the lowest point on the valve.
Do you have any other symptoms of valve problems? If not, you might just consider replacing all the hoses. If so, I would recommend replacing all the hoses, the valve, and the ram at the same time.
I actually had the grease fitting on my control valve go bad and leak too. whenever I'd move the ballstud back and forth, grease(thin watery grease by this point) would squirt out. The seals were totally shot in it, so there was probably steering fluid forcing its way through the grease as well, but it is possible to have that fitting leak. looks like time for a rebuild or replacement.
