I'm trying to fit the original 8 track player to my 1980,figured most of the wiring out just got a problem with the orange and brown wires(separate connector) if I put 12v on the orange wire it works ,what does the brown one do and should the current be switched or constant?
Do you have a multimeter?
Test the brown wire for voltage -Key off and then key on
If it doesnt have any voltage set your meter to Ohms and test it to see if its a ground.
Unless the old 8 track player has a clock or station memory (which I really doubt) it should have no reason for a constant voltage
Let Me go take a look at My 79 ,I may be able to tell what goes where. Pretty sure the orange is memory and its hot all the time, cant
remember what brown is. Be back in a while.
These radios were not available in 79 so I wired mine up Myself
but I do have a wire that is hot all the time connected to the Orange
for memory. For the life of Me I cant tell what the brown is for. Does
everything work when You have orange hooked to hot wire, does
power ant. work? For some reason I think the brown is a ground but
just cant remember for sure. Sorry couldnt be of more help.
I've been looking at a wiring diagram and it appears the brown wire is a dimmer, does the Corvette use this function? The grey wire listed as illumination appears to have no effect, the orange wire provides lighting.
