Default HUD for C3

Has anyone tried to mount C5 style HUD for C3?

They sell aftermarket stuff like this
http://www.hopupracing.com/dedivsdco.html

if you have, please tell me how did it work out? I'd love to see pictures too.

One thing I've thinked of is that there might be some sort of problems with the projection because there is not much space to project the picture to the windshield. :-|

Been looking for something like this ever since I drove a new C6 a month or so ago. Will be watching to see if anyone has tried this.

Would go nice with my nordskog digital dash, price seems cheap though, what about hook up, senders etc?

I toyed with the idea of that Defi-link system...however.. thats just the display there that they sell.. to make it work you also need the control box...and.. if you want it to display anything other than speed you need to buy their gauges... or just the sensors... as well - they all connect to the control unit which sends the information to the display unit.

My idea was to recess that display unit into the speaker hole in front of the driver to flush it out to the dash... oddly enough... the install instructions state..

Do not install the display in a location with much moisture or dust, or where it will be in direct sunlight, or in an area around heater exhaust vents.

That is correct.. But e.g. in my case I only want the speed to be shown..
so I found out that the control unit costs 119$ and then there was this basic display unit (with not so much features) and it costs 155$.

So the simple packet with only the speed shown costs still less than 300$. Not too much.

Yeah well.. in the end it might be better if there isn't too much info so you don't get distracted while driving..

I was thinking something like that too. But I was a bit worried that is that space enough for the display.. I mean if the projected image is too low it is no fun at all.. And I am afraid that might be the case then so I asked from you guys before I ordered anything..

But there also seems to be some sort of transparent plastic thing you need to install to the windshield.. Is it really needed? A small piece looks pretty stupid I think.. How this projection works with C5? There is a normal windshield or is there some sort of matt layer on the surface or something?

You don't need to worry about the windshield too much unless you really need to see it in bright sunlight. I installed a factory HUD in my Cutlass and it reflects perfectly on overcast days and at night. Had a Grand Prix with factory HUD and it was the same way, not 100% sure there was a HUD windshield in there though. As for the image being too low, I'd prefer that to too high, that really distracts a person. All I have is speed, turn signals, high beam and check gauges and that's plenty for me.
