Yeah, I am trying to get some speakers into a 1980. The pockets for them are not deep and wide enough for today's 6x9's.
I am either going to press fit (jam) the speakers in to place, mount 2 seperate 6x9 boxes to the back wall or use the large drop in box that holds 2 6x9 speakers.
A couple of days ago someone posted some really bad-A-S-S pictures of their speaker and CD-Player. They had the speakers sort of in custom looking corner mounts.
Go back a couple pages in the posts and it should show up.
Funny how great minds spend money alike.. I was at two different shops yesterday looking into speaker upgrades. I just wanted 6x9's to go with the Kenwood tape deck but they both said I would need an amp since the Kenwood just wasn't pushing enough power. I didn't want to give up my glove box or mount the amp across the back panel between the 2 rear speakers so I decided to upgrade the radio to an Eclipse CD 3421 with either the Boston Acustic or Phoenix Gold Tanteum 6x9 speakers which he recommened but was out of stock. I was amazed at the sounds this unit puts out. They wanted $150 to install the unit and speakers. I think its a little high but when I go back to hear the Phoenix speaker I'm going to see how the pro's would install them in my car. If I get anything useful I'll post it.
I bought some panasonic surface mounted speakers at Best Buy for around
100$. Have them stuck to the carpet with velcro. They sound pretty good
and I didn't have to alter my interior. My only concern is that they could
easily be stolen if somoene gets the opportunity. Probably not as good
sound as 6 by 9's.
I couldn't wait so I call the shop to see how they would install the 6x9's. He said he would come up with his own mount to hold them. Said it wasn't unusual for them to make up something on the fly. Still haven't decided. Can anyone tell me how it feels to cut the dash?
