My 74 car won't start. It has no power whatsoever, but the battery is fine. It did rain the other day, and I had the T-tops off and it did get wet inside, but I don't understand. Any help appreciated.
I know you say no power but does that mean you have no power at all? Meaning headlights, interior lights anything? Also as warhovs asked, how did you check the battery?
I checked the battery with a voltmeter, plus I just got a new battery a week ago. I also checked the battery by putting one end on the positive and the other end under the car to the negative ground. All okay. I checked the alternator. It had power. But there was no power to the interior lights or the headlights or the radio.
Check your fusebox - make sure you have voltage across the fuses.
Check to see if you have voltage to the starter too. There are fusable links along the power distribution - so you might want to disconnect the battery, and check to see if you have continuity between the + battery cable, and your starter. Just follow the wiring, checking to see if everythings good.
Try jump starting with another battery. If it starts it is the battery. Had the same problem last week on my 70. Battery checked 12V with a voltmeter and there was 12V at the starter poles. Jumped it and Yeah! I understand you just bought a new bat, but, this is worth a try.
