Default broke wheel stud

Well getting my 71 ready for a show this week end I pulled the alum slots to polish them up.3 coats of mothers each and they look respectable.Anyways while reinstalling them I broke a rear stud.Having no time to pull the wheel what I need to know is can it be replaced on the car or do I have to remove the hub?

Dino,
I read an article by Norval recently who says it CAN be done on the car. Look him up and if it's not on his website, he'll more than likely tell you.

Regards from Down Under

Norval not only replaced them, he upgraded to 1/2" studs...on the car.

I would remove it. The only way to get the new stud seated while on the car would be to over torque it with a pneumatic wrench. That may stretch it and you'd be back to square one before long. Besides that, I don't know how you'd get it in there with the dust shield, etc. in the way. If that one broke then the others may not be far behind. Time to press in new studs if you want to play it safe. Either way, good luck with it!

Thanks for the replys.I did read that article by Norval before I posted but didn't see anything about installing the studs.I looked in corvette central catalog to see the picture and it looks like the dust sheild is in the way.Summers are too short here so it looks like another winter project!

He drew the studs onto the hub with lubricant and a strong nut.
