I must be missing something,im pulling the 454 from the 68.and i cant see how the shroud and radiator come out....i removed top radiator brackets, upper and lower fan shroud bolts, but everything interfears with everything else.......any help is very much appreciated
Although mine is a 74 SB, I had the same problem. I eventually coaxed the fan shroud out by pulling the sides inward until they popped from their original positions then lifted it out. Once the shroud was out I had my son lift the driver's side of the radiator out and then I lifted the passenger side. Did this because the lower outlet will get hung up on the upper A-Arm. Hope this makes sense and helps.
I'd suggest removing your hood 1st. Mark the hinge that attaches to your hood with tape or a grease pencil and pull the 6 bolts (2 for the prop).
Then remove the core support bolts that extend into the front wheel wells. You access these through the wheel wells.
Then remove the entire core support, radiator and shroud as one assembly.
Once out of the car, you can separate and clean up the shroud, radiator and core support.
I'm not sure what you're doing this for, but if you are upgrading you should consider chucking the shroud and going with electric fans. DeWitts is the best place I know to get this along with a new aluminum radiator for that hot big block. If the core support is original, it's likely in need of replacement.
much nicer to pull the core support complete, and yes i have 2 broken brackets and may convert to electric fans while im there.thanks again for the info.any good sources for new lower radiator brackets and hoses etc?
