I've been having the problem of shifting back and forth when driving in slow traffice......10 to 30 MPH. I was going to wait until next year to have it looked at but then I was going through the Mid America catalog and found a cable that plugs inline and is supposed to take care of this problem. The catalog however shows that this is for the 700R4 transmission. I have (I believe) the stock tranny.
Has anyone tried this on a stock and does it indeed take care of the problem?? Any advice would be appreciated as this is a true pain when driving in town!!
With a 350C, which is what you should have, just unplug it. That will disable the lock-up clutch. No harm will come of it except a loss in gas mileage.
This DOES NOT work with a 700R4. Unplugging a 700 in the same way to disable the lock-up will result in very costly damage to the tranny.

Re: Lockup converter on '81 (45ACP)
Yep -- what he said.
Mine is a 1980, but it does have the 350C transmission. It is controlled by a vacuum sensor / switch combo.
My repair shop had left the wire at the transmission disconnected after doing a tranny tune up. Drove around for a couple of months like that, with no problem.
rmadlem, I've had mine unplugged for the past 5yrs. with no problems. You'll find the connector on the drivers side of the trans up near the speedo connection. Have fun...VettePaul.
My trans connector is tricky to unplug - especially with a hot motor. If the loom is the same as mine, then the 3 wires from the solenoid go up the side of the engine to a connector just inboard of the EGR/TCC vacuum bleed valve (just WHAT does that thing do???). You can disconnect the connector there which is a lot easier than grovelling around underneath.
