Default Edelbrock intake

Having put on headers, and hearing of the joys of a new header/intake combo, I think I want to put a new intake manifold on before I tune my QJ.

From the sounds of it, most people seem to put on Edelbrock Performer intakes, but according to Edelbrock, the only dual-plane intake that they make that will fit under the stock hood is the EPS. Is this what people are putting on? If not, what are you running?

The standard performer fits. The rpm and airgaps fit if you use an aftermarket drop base air filter housing. I chose to go with the performer, I really don't go over 5,55 rpms and did not want to loose the advantages of the '81's stock cold air intake set up. God bless, Sensei

I'm using the EPS but it is a square bore and I've got a Holley SA on top and drop base cleaner.

Performer 2101, Holley spreadbore carb, (I did run it with the Q-jet). Works fine with stock stuff.

This one states that it is both spread and square bore. How does that work? Also, this looks like it is shorter than the EPS.

Also, the EPS and the Summit brand street/stage 1 intake look the same other than the texture inside.

Summit

EPS

I guess I am unclear as to what the best option is. My understanding is that the dual plan manifolds will be smoother across the largest RPM band, and I would assume the smoother and less restrictive the manifold is, the better off I will be.

The Edelbrock 2101 will allow either type of carb. Notice it's pre drilled for either. It's good to have if you like to experiment. It is the best if you want to run stock air cleaner and plan to stay uner 6000rpm.

I run 2101 with Q-Jet and it runs great. I have a friend witha 69 Chevelle with 2101 and holley straight bore 600cfm and his works just as well...(cept he has no working choke.)

In my 2006 edelbrock catalog they have a performer RPM Q-jet
manifold that is double drilled for a Q-jet or squarebore carb.
The manifold height is the same as all the rest of the RPM manifolds.
With a drop base air cleaner you should be able to use it on your
78 the part no is #7104

Looking at gaskets to go with these, it seems that there are a LOT of different sizes/types, anyone know what the correct one is for stock heads?

My 79 has a Eldebrock 3701 on with a the stock Q Jet carb and a set of Dynomax headers. The stock air clearner fits just fine, with no clearnance problems. All of the fitting for the choke and EGR fit properly. Gary B.

Yes, the insulation blanket is in my car and there is not any indication of contact between it and the air clearner. And the vacumn fitting behind the carburator for the auto transmission/powerbrake/heater controls even lines up properly. Hope this helps. Gary B.
