Default Radiator questions

I am installing a new radiator in my 71 with an auto. It had an inline filter from the radiator back to the trans. Is this necessary? Should I keep an inline filter here? Could someone verify the direction of flow of the transmission fluid through the radiator. It was labeled that the top line was the line returning fluid to the transmission. Is this correct? Thanks.

I recently had BTO install one of their 700r4 trannys. They often put in an in line filter with instructions to remove it after (I think) 500 miles.

They didn't put one in mine, they said they had double flushed it prior to running it in the car.

I remote filter brakets on my work trucks. They use a Ph8 oil filter.
The bad
They do not have a bypass in them and when the filter plugs, it will blow your coolant line and you're stranded.
The good
When they eventually fail, the tranny shop always says that they are the cleanest transmissions they have ever taken apart, but they still fail.
