More frame help
I purchased a 69 Vette a couple weeks ago and I am trying to make an assessment of the car's needs. Yesterday I felt up under the frame rail, halfway between wheels, just above the brake line and the metal was flimsy. I actually chipped some off. I assumed it was the inner side of the frame disintegrating. With a cooler head, and on closer inspection today, the flimsy rusted metal seems to be part of the rocker channel. Does that see right? I did't know it came down that far.
Also, as I look in the holes in the bottom of frame rails, they have lots of pieces of rusted metal inside. They are the size of quarters/half dollars. At every frame hole in the side rails. The frame seems solid. Where are these pieces coming from? I am praying its not frame, and they seem to be more in the nature of severely rusted sheet metal.
The car seems solid -- but for this rust. The birdcage looks good. I lfted car at jack points and doors worked great. I assume that the rocker channels are shot and the rust chips are getting into the frame.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
