Default Bung Source?

I realize the topic opens the door to all sorts of wise remarks, but restrain yourselves......

I'm having trouble finding a local source for a bung to weld into the side of my oil pan for my oil temp sensor. Anyone know of a mail order source?

Will, If it's the same thread as an O2 sensor, Austin Performance next to my shop has them.... or Summit, Jegs etc..

I am assuming you have pipe threads on the sensor? If so you can go to the hardware store and pick up a pipe coupling.

Might be wrong but I thought I would offer it up as an idea.

If it's the same as an O2 sensor....It's just metric thread M18x1.5 also used on spark plugs. Just get an M18x1.5 nut and weld it on. However, I doubt the oil temp sender will be metric, most likely an NPT thread

flynhi...

I'll tell you what I did to a transmission pan... I found an unobstructed corner of the pan and welded a 1"X1" piece of 3/8" steel plate inside the pan. I drilled and taped it for the requisite thread and never had a problem. In this case it was for an oil plug so I used a Teflon washer, but you can just put some sealer on it and you should have no problems.

Canton has a myriad of miscellaneous parts for any automotive oiling system, http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/

Good luck... GUSTO

if its the same thread as an o2 sensor any exhaust shop should carry
it.
they mess up threads all the time when doing exhaust work and have to
replace them.

Here's a URL to Bowtie transmissions for what you'd need to do the same for installing a temp sensor for a tranny. The sensor sending unit replaces the brass plug.

Summit has them I believe, at least they have aluminum ones. I needed 1 at work and Summit is where I ended up getting it.

Have you tried a diesel HD parts outlet,a hydraulic hose/fittings shop or a good hardcore race shop in your area? As long as you know what to ask for, size and thread type, they should have what you need.If you need something in a NPT thread, buying a cheap fitting from your local hardware store, cutting off the part you don't need and welding it in is also an option.
