how close to the corners can I get when I port my ramhorn manifold? I will post pics soon of what my magic marker says.

I may well be rong, but, when porting any airlflow device, intake or exhaust, I fail to see the advantage in matching gaskets....ME, I"d pay more attention to making sure the upstream hole is smaller than the downstream hole, and hell with the gasket....

having said that, I have allways gasket matched, even though my own sense told me not bother....

frankly, being a non split second racer anymore, and from just street feel, porting is nice, but over rated....

Are those the ones from shop.com? I have a set in the shed and am going to eventually get to porting them out.

632C2 has done the same thing. He told me he used a Fel-Pro 1404 gasket, made it match the heads, and then used it as the template for the manifold. Are you using this technique?

I noticed that you have marker on both the manifold and the heads. If you need to take from both, wouldn't it be a little safer to port less, match the manifold and leave a littlemore meat on the manifold? I'd hate to have to do the job twice and the performance hit will probably be negligible.

fel-pro 1404 huh? I will have to look at that gasket and see if that requires less meat removed

thats just an off the shelf Mr. Gasket header gasket

I was going to use that opprotunity to give the entire port some love.

the fel-pro 1404 is a 1.5" x 1.5" gasket

the Mr. Gasket 150A that I have markered up is 1.55"x1.45"

its looking like the ideal gasket it my case is the Mr. Gasket 5900, which is 1.48"x1.45"

so that should clear up more room in the corners.

Sounds like a plan. I will have to measure my ports before selecting a gasket when I get to it.

Good Luck.

I used a air driven die grinder we have at work.
It had a long extension shaft about 1" thick, so I could reach from the 2.5" out all the way to the roundings above the mid cylinders.
I just used some coarse cartridge rolls initially and finished it up with some finer ones... Made a really good result

At the two center holes I made an angle at the top of the inlet to divert the flow a bit downwards. If you look closely you can see this at the pictures. This was done last with the fine grit rolls.

I tapped out the heat pipe first.
It must be tapped out from the top down, and inserted from bottom up.
The ends are differnt sizes!!!!
I found out the hard way as I had to re-expand the large end after driving it though the small top hole.......

If I were you I would get a set of head gaskets that fit as close to the head port size as possible. Then you match the manifolds to that, and make them a bit larger. That way you will not be so close to the edges.

With the ram horns you will not gain anything noticeable by making both the heads and manifolds larger, you will only reduce the sealing surface area.....

Happy modding...
