Default Bought a new (old) 71

Bought a new 1971, with a 350, the car was completely taken apart (complete but completly apart and paint was sodium sprayed off). The car is in more pieces than I think there are numbers to count. I paid 250 dollars for all of it though, t-tops removable glass and all so I ain't complainin'.

My question is, since I don't know what bolt goes where, and I want new suspension that has an awesome ride and incredibly good handling, and also need new front and rear axels, what should I get? I like that max performance thing from ecklers, and I like the looks of the rack an pinion conversion. Is the front monospring conversion better than the max performance coil over one? I love my C4, but the monospring is so much cheaper I don't see how it could be better than the max perf. one.

Also The interior is hell, so I am going to custom design my own (shame on me for breaking a classic car I know, but the 94' is my "stock" car.) Does anyone make frames for the interior that you can foam/glass your self?

The motor is taken apart down to crankshaft, and random nuts an bolts. I'm keeping the cored and some other parts for either a core trade or to keep in case somebody who want to build it back to factory can have matching numbers. Can ya'll recomend any 350's that come fuel injected with decent power and mpg? (I drive a truck so decent mpg is like an lt1).

The owner moved to Texas from missouri, and left title there, I have VIN though. Anyone have connections at getting a copy of the title there?

TIA for the help!

Good luck on the rebuild! I bought an inexpensive 79 and knew from the beginning that it was going to cost much more in time and money that it would ever be worth. Take a look at Vette Brakes and Products or Van Steel for suspension pieces.

If you want the ultimate in 350 power and fuel economy, look into putting an LS1 with either a 6-speed or automatic in the car. You can have 300+ HP and get mileage in the 20's.

Good luck on the title stuff. I would never buy a car without the paperwork being in order. You can end up with a pile of $hit on your hands. If you only pair $250 for the car you don't have much to lose.

That's what I said, worse comes to worse I part it out and make a grand, then wait a while and buy a decent vette.

I looked at their stuff at VBP, but I can't tell which is more for drag racing or for handling. It doesn't hae to be the best kit, but maybe second best . EVERY suspension part needs to be replaced (or I spend days figuring out what the hell I'm doing). The guy I got it from also gave me doubles of certain parts so I'm gonna get lost as all get out.

Is http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=514 better than that whole performance plus thing? Then I could just buy the performance plus for the rear?

Sounds like a deal, though the title might cause problems. Parting it out, could yield more than a little profit, though it may be hard to do if it is a matching numbers car. If you want to sell it all for a quick profit, I may be interested. My son's have been looking for a project car. Sounds like your 71 is definitely that.

I would not invest a nickel in that car until I resolved the title problem. Without proper ownership you are playing with fire. Could be a stolen car, and your posession of it could be a felony.

Resolve that first then get some performance catalogs like JEGS or Summit, go on line looking for GNM Performance parts the posibilities are endless for drive trains. It all depoends on what you are looking for.

That's the kit I was thinking about going with but I havent gotten an answer as to if the front monoleaf conversion is better than the front on this kit.

the front kit that you link to, is the front of the performance plus 42000. Same parts exactly just one picture shows it assembled (it doesn't come assembled).

Rosslato has good pictures

Has anybody ordered anything from zip corvette? They have some parts I need (like the harness to remove the body) cheaper than ecklers.

I've ordered quite a few things from zip. Any of the above mentioned vendors are great.

I'll get on finding a title, either thru a company, missouri, or texas when I get back. Here are some photos, hopefully this forum automatically resizes or it will be hell.

Well the tiesto case got put on hold, I am taking on two major porjects, restoring two cars

One is a 76 monte carlo with almost 34k miles. It was originally my great grand mothers and sat on a farm. For a long time. Probably 20 of its living years. Anyway it will be repainted factory canary yellow, get two black racing stripes, and a black interior with all plastic trim vinyled. The interior and paint on this car won't be done by me. Either a 454 or 427 (possibly supercharged) will be dropped in and the factory motor crated up and stored.

The other is a 71 Stingray, mostly complete, sodium blasted, and taken apart into a million pieces. I am doing all the body work, paint, interior, etc. It will either be getting an LT1 or an LS1 motor, with the core of the original being crated up and stored. The LS1 can get 22mpg in the city and 340hp, and shaves off 350 pounds of weight. It will be an old body and frame with new racing grade suspension (about to drop 2k on the suspension alone if the title comes thru). It's purpose is to have old school styling with new school performance. it is meant to be a daily driver as well as take on all those import tuners at the college I will be attending. Eventually the automatic ill be taken out and manual put in (it was originally a manual, manual vettes can go to an automatic but factory automatics can't easily go to manual.) I still have to pick up the wheels from the guy, as well as some trim pieces. I also have 4 xenon bmw lamps on its way. The front head lights won't pop up, but be acrylic and "blacked out", so it retains the look of the headlights. The car will also be black. It will have one 10 inch type r sub woofer and new alpine r components, all stealth mounted in the dash and in the rear storage compartment. It will also have a laser jammer and the in dash radar detector from escort. I also have a viper two way car alarm for it, that has proximity sensors. If the top is off and you get too close the windows roll up. Get closer the alarm goes off. It also has remote start

I honestly thought about putting a boat hull on it and making it the first water stingray, but then I realized I'd drive it more on the road.

It was owned by a man who raced corvettes who was going to restore it, but he got out of racing, got older, and ran out of money. he now lives with his sister. he gave it to his sisters daughter, who I bought it from. All of it. For 250 dollars. She wanted 500, but I asked if shed go lower and she said 250.

Looks like you got a couple of MSD LS1 spark plug wires with it. It's not as bad as I thought. I would still part it out unless you want to spend $20,000 plus to restore it.

The guy in the hanger next to us is an auto painter. He said he'd teach me how and would do some gel coats on the body when I get it smooth, and would sand blast and paint the frame for me for free. I just have the issue of figuring out what all the tubes and 40 million wires go to.

Oh come on I've resized all the pictures and reuploaded them twice. Why ain't this working.

Ah that's better. I see you're in lewisville. If I get this going you know you want to help get it together

I priced an LS1, 2100 dollars, then another 400 dollars for the computer.

Here are some more pictures I missed, say I can only post 10 at a time and I only had 5, oh well.
