For those who have headers, what brand, tube size, flange at head thickness, gauge of tubing, etc. How do they line up with frame exhaust holes. I am considering hooker, dynomax, hedman. Thanks. :seeya
I have been very happy with the Hookers ;) :D er......umm.......well,you know what I mean. Seriously though, I have the Hooker competition headers that have 5/16 flanges at the head, primary tubes are 16gauge(1/16") 1-5/8 dia . I have had no problem with sealing since installing them last year. Mine are the cheap painted ones and the paint has held up very well, but my car never sees rain, snow,..... Others have said that the Hookers don't fit well, but mine fit perfectly. My only complaint is with a lack of room around 3 of the header bolts that makes it difficult to get a wrench on them.
I am assuming that you are refering to the crossmember exhaust holes when you say frame holes. I can't give you a good answer to this, but I will tell you what I did. I bought the LT-1 2-1/2 exhaust pipes and mufflers from Zip about a year prior to installing the headers. The stock tail pipe is clamped to the head pipe near the crossmember. I simply removed the head pipe and had a muffler shop bend and weld a piece that goes between the headers and tail pipe. This piece bolts up to the collector and is bent in a lazy S shape towards the crossmember holes. This pipe then slips into the stock tail pipe and is clamped at the stock location just in front of the crossmember. This piece that was made is only about 1 foot long.
Hedman headers fit perfectly in a small block. If you are anywhere close to a stock engine, DO NOT get primary tubes that are too big. 1 5/8" good; 1 3/4" BAD!
Just installed hedmans on my '75. The fit is awesome and they went in without a fight, only had to raise the front of the car about a foot. No leaks and they have a lifetime warranty. Included all gaskets, collectors, bolts ect. Only thing extra you'll need to buy is a bracket if you have A/C.
T-Top Tony here in the forum sold me his for $30 brand new in the box :D I think Summit sells them for $100.00.
I considered Hookers but they were too flakey with all the footnotes. Some won't even fit a Vette with a TH400.
I think summit lists all the thicknesses and primary/collector sizes of all the headers they carry. Check their catalog or web site.
i have hooker competitions with a turbo 400 and they fit great i also had hooker supercompetition on my 76 and they also had no problem fitting, witha smallblock that is.
Just checked Summits web site and according to them the Competitions HOK-2456 won't fit TH400 applications. Also read where a few people in here couldn't make them work with the TH400 either. On the other hand a few people did say the fit. Seems kinda hit and miss.
They also claim the super comps won't fit with A/C except on certain years? That one seems really odd?
