I jusr replaced the weatherstriping on my T-Tops and now, there is a 5/16 inch gap on one side and a 1/8 inch gap on the other side above the window glass!!!
The T-Tops do stand up higher than before, and it is difficult to even get them in place. Has anyone else experienced this after installing new weatherstripping?
I have the T-Tops on the car hoping they will settle into place, but it doesn't look too promising. I have a planned road trip coming up, and I need to get them on properly.
I ahd a similar problem when I replaced my a couple weeks ago I just about cound not get them on and latched now they fit just fine give it a liitle time and see what happens
where did you get the w/strips from? The first ones I got were my by Metrol Rubber,Fit like poop.ripped them off & trashed them. The only place for corvette w/strip is Corvette Rubber, fit is perfect.
I did mine last week. They had leaks when 1st done & the windows didn't quite meet at the top. Luckily I didn't try to adjust the windows as the Tops sunk over the next few days & they seal OK now - apart from the drivers side which is now holding the window slightly away from the rear window seal
Changed mine out a couple of years ago and had the same problem. It takes some time for the new stripping to "settle" in. Perhaps several months. Another thing you can do to get your windows to seat properly is to take off the door panels and adjust them. There are several adjustment screws to aliegn the window. Once the weatherstripping conforms you may need to adjust them again.
Jim, try taking your T tops off and turning them over in the sun and letting it heat them up. Then, when they are nice and warm, perhaps after a couple of hours, put them in place and latch them down for a day or two.
Where did you buy the weahterstrips? And how did you remove the old strips and the glue. I have mirrored T-tops and wonder how to get the old strips off without damaging the mirrored layer.
And I have to buy a new set of strips.
To answer everyone's questions -- I bought from Corvette Rubber and got good telephone support and cooperation. However, being a novice at this I learned as I went.
I read an old article posted on the Corvette Magazine On-Line site titled "Sealed for Real". They made it sound like it was going to be so easy, but in spite of that, I did learn some useful information.
If you inspect your new parts for holes, this will help you find those hidden screws that must be removed.
I used 3M Adhesive Remover and 3M Black Adhesive -- it sets up real fast and if you mess with it too much, you'll get little black stringers everywhere! I also bought a weatherstripping tool set and this was helpful for scraping the old adhesive off and the pick was useful for locating the holes when they got covered over with adhesive.
After looking closely at the weatherstripping as it is now in place (its been clamped on the car for 2 days) I have decided to take some additional measures. When I first installed it, I put most of the adhesive on the slanted (angled) surface that has the holes drilled for the plastic snap pins. It looks like this is pulling the weatherstripping up. So, I got some wood strips, some clamps and put more adhesive on the "bottom" of the weatherstripping. I then placed the wood strip on top of the weatherstripping and clamped it down. It sure looks like it is going to reposition the weatherstripping in a more suitable configuration.
I like the suggestion about laying the T-Tops out in the sun before putting them on the car. Aside from that, I'm glad to hear that in more than one case, the weatherstripping conformed to the car after a couple of weeks in place.
Thanks again to all who offered help ....... Jim [IMG][/IMG]
