Hi Everyone,
I am also new to the Forum, I was wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket 1977-79 High Rise Hood in their 68-79 vette, I am interested in how it looks on a 77 vette, I love the lines of my 77 vette so i dont want to change the look too drastically but I need more clearance under hood, and Im thinking this might be the answer for it.
If you do have this hood can you tell me how much higher the center of the hood it is from a stock hood and do you have any front and side pictures of your vette with the hood on, so i can take a look at it
I have seen pictures of the hood in ecklers, corvette central and on the web but they do not show the hood installed on a vette and they also dont compare how much higher it is fron the stock 1977 hood.
Thanks
Ray
You know I have the same problem but since I went ahead and had the car recently painted I am sticking to what I have. Unfortunetly I had to stick with the performer intake becuase the performer RPM and air-Gap was too tall. And even with the performer intake my K&N aircleaner which is only 2" tall still leaves an impression on my underhood blanket
But if you have not painted the only hoods I will consider are through Ecklers, I have read the forum for 3 years now and i hear about hood misalignments and all sorts of problems with the 20+ year old fiberglass sagging so the new hood doesnt match up perfectly and they had to shave the hood etc. etc. :(
But Ecklers carries GM stock hoods and offers the best quality, worth the extra money. Just my opinion.
Hi Ray, I just read your e-mail. My hood is homemade with a stock Corvette hood cutout in the center & a high rise glassed onto it. You should be able to get an idea of how it will look on your car though. Depending on your choice of intake and air cleaner, I would think that a 2.5" high rise would be enough to clear. Mine is about 4" an is alittle high for viewing when autocrossing. I too went to a higher hood because my airclaener didn't fit after I installed my new engine with the RPM intake. :(

mikeo, didn't you post a "How to build a fiberglas hood scoop" tech article a while back? I've been thinking about going with an aftermarket high rise but the tales of poor fitment are bothering me. I've been thinking about buying a hump and 'glassing it onto my stock hood. Cut a hole, "glue" it onto a prepared surface with resin, lay down a few strips of cloth, cure then sand, sand, sand, right?
Jack, that sounds pretty accurate. I got my hood from someone I worked with who had a son in law that glassed the cowl onto the hood. His son in law sold the vette & left the hood in my friends shed for years. He was happy to have me get it out of his shed ;) . So I haven't glassed it to the hood other than finishing it, it was pretty rough when I first got it.
I'm thinking of trying it with my stock hood. I would like an L88 hood & the stock hood already has the hole cut in it from the tunnel ram that was once on my car in Florida before I bought it & brought it to NY. The hood I have on it now doesn't line up perfect either, it sits alittle high near the windshield which I can't adjust any further down.
If & when I get to modifing the stock hood, I'll be sure to post pics, unless someone beats me to it .
