Default Choke adjustment

Alright someone enlighten me on how to get my choke adjusted just right. Right now it seems to be closed a bit too much when the car has sat for more than 8 hours. I start it up and it runs real rough and I get the nasty rich black smoke out of the sidepipes. If I start it up and open the choke blades with my finger it idles much smoother and is fine. I'm guessing I need to set the choke to be open more when it's full, but I'd like a bit of enlightenment.

Edelbrock #1904 (M4M q-jet) with electric choke. It was actually working fine until I switched to a tad richer primary metering rods, I'm guessing I knocked it out of adjustment when I put it back on. Once the choke is open it runs like it should.

Most electric chokes have a round plastic housing that has some small degree marks on the edge of them. Loosen the screws that hold the housing in place and rotate it slightly to adjust the choke, then retighten the screws.

Cold engine - adjust the choke so it just barely closes fully. Sometimes you need to clean and lubricate the choke linkages and pivot points to get everything to work smoothly. Good luck!

Now it's coming back. Glad I've had my choke replaced before, has the screws instead of the rivets already installed for me so I can do that. Thanks.
