I finally scored an awesome 69 427 Roadster, the car is my dream car with two exceptions, I wanted a red, or black car with side-pipes, and I ended up with Daytona Yellow, I listed the car for sale or trade, (on the forum) in hopes of selling and getting a black one, or red. I am starting to think I am crazy. I really love this car. Should I just paint it black, and put side pipes on it? Or is that going to kill my resale. The car was repainted the original Daytona Yellow 10 years ago, its good paint, and it still has plenty of shine, the car could use paint if I was going to trailer queen it and show it, but I don't show it and it's my sunny day driver. I would love to hear other corvette freaks opinions. I don't want to really deal with selling it or losing it to cash in the hopes of finding another one in such good condition. It took me two months, and several long trips to find this one!!!!!!
Are you kidding? Keep it yellow! That color looks too cool on any vette. Of course like they always say, if you really want to change the color, do what you like because it's your car. It will definitely change the resale value on a car like yours. But you can always respray at selling time. But you are looking at a lot of MOOLAH to change and change back. Yellow is in as far as cars go, keep it you'll like it!
Let me jump in here with the normal Corvette Forum response, just in case it hasn't popped into your head yet...
DON'T sell the yellow one, it's lonely, get it a stable mate
2 are better than 1 :jester
Daytona Yellow and nearly every other yellow is awesome
When I went hunting for another C3 vert early last year I found this car in my search.... http://www.corvetteworld.net/69yellbody.html. Looked good on the internet but when I went to see it I found her misrepresented and her beauty was only skin deep and not worth the price. Found what I could live with in Houston but would really rather have had YELLOW!
I agree with Desertdawg...keep her and find your baby a playmate:jester
ps....the car in DFW has not sold yet..cuz it's only a pretty POS.:smash:
First see if you can find one you think you like better (red or black). Then buy it. Then, and only then, if you like the red/black one better than the yellow one, sell the yellow one. Otherwise you will be "what iffin" yourself forever! MJ
I like the yellow. But it is your car so do with it as you see fit. If you want to change the color go ahead. It can always be changed back later. Value loss? Just the cost of a repaint.
MNJack's idea of keeping the yellow one and getting the red/black car to see which is in better shape is a good idea if you can stand the $$ required.
As for my opinion, sorry, I am jonesing for a daytona yellow bumper shark, so I would be ecstatic if I had your car. As soon as the 99' is paid for the shark hunt will commence!
Thanks everyone for your kind remarks, I think getting a stable mate is the way to go, that way I do projects on one, while I drive the other, now I just got to figure out how to pay for a second one. The more I drive this one the more I love it. The yellow is cool, it is my third choice, tied with blue, behind red and then black, #1. SO the search for a black shark goes on. It doesn't have to be #'s matching or a big block, just tripple black, I want to put a 502 crate in it with headers and pipes. Keep the yellow one a stock driver, and hot rod the black one.
I am originally a southern boy and spent a lot of time taking trips through Louisiana, greetings from the Pacific NorthWest (three hours north of Seattle) I think your flame orange shark is one of the coolest sharks I have ever seen. Your pic and graphics are really awesome. If I had that puppy I would do just like you are and drop in a crate.
I'd paint it black and install the sidepipes if it were me, but that's only if it isn't an all original car ;) . If you can afford to do 2 at the same time, by all means go for it :D ! For me, I'd like to get a convertible C3 someday, but as long as I can find ways to improve upon the one I already have, the vert will have to wait .
I agree with mike. I'd say got for it an do whatever you want with it, its your car afterall. As for the resale value, it won't affect it that much but anyway why would you want to sell it in the first place?
I think you should just drive the car as is for a year, then decide what to do. I bet during the year, you will start loving that yellow more and more. To be honest, I always wanted a C2 ragtop. As the prices went up, they started getting out of the range I could afford to pay cash. To make a long story short ... I settled for my 72 ragtop. And guess what, slowly the body style started to really turn me on. All of a sudden, the C1 & C2's didn't look all that nice to me. Bottom line don't sell your car short before you have had time to fall in love with it. Yellow is a very popular color, and I think you will draw a lot of attention with it. I bet in 6 months, you come back and tell us you wouldn't change a thing on your car. Just give it time to grow on you...
