I have a Holley Street Avenger 670. Love the carb, but I have a question....in the morning when I first start the car, the engine fires right up and idles at 1200 rpm...until it warms up a little (and I goose it) and the rpms drop to 700 (this is normal from everything I have read). However, after driving around and the engine warms up to the proper temp and I stop for about 10-15 minutes, whenever I restart the engine, I have to go through the same procedure as if the motor was stone cold....1200 rpms, wait about 2 minutes, goose the motor and the rpms return to 700. The engine is still warm and the temp gauge reads about 180 when this happens. Is this normal????? You would think once the engine warms up (from the initial start of the day) that I wouldn't have to go through the "start-up" revs....
I disabled the fast idle on my 670
I dont care for a cold engine running @ 1,100 rpm.
I removed the choke setup and then removed the screw and the little plastic thing it went into (Which was also causing the the throttle not to return completely) Re-installed the choke setup and then it was much better
Who needs the high idle unless its 20 degrees outside
It sounds like your choke is set too rich if it comes on after sitting for short periods. Rotate the choke cover towards lean one notch at a time until it starts and runs the way you want and does not stumble when cold. By going towards the lean setting, you will shorten the fast idle duration. Going towards rich, will extend the duration. If you go too lean, the engine may stumble when cold. Since you don't really have cold weather like here in the north, you can lower your fast idle screw down to 1000 or so if you want.
