Default 1982 Front. Part missing. Can it cause hightemp?

Hello,

I have a 1982 front on my 1976 Corvette. There is a "spoiler" piece which has to be fitted below to the front. (Comes originally with the front).
It is not on and I do not have the brackets for it. My question is if the missing part can cause overheating problems as the missing part might result in that the airflow do not go as it should?
Kind regards
Søren Falksen

Ps....the car is just about to get finish after a serious rebuilt and I might as well get it on if it causes problems......so if any one have some info. regarding this.

The part you refer to does help in the flow of air through the engine bay. The front grill on a corvette is very small, anything which helps direct air into the engine bay will help keep engine temp down. I would put it on personnally.

yes, you need the air dam (center section) for proper airflow through the radiator. You can simply use a self made strap/bracket to hold the front edge in place.

The part i have is Corvette Lower Bumper Extension, 1980-1982
Hand Laminated Fiberglass Construction

Do anyone know how it is supposed to be fitted on the car?
It is 6 years ago I removed it and cannot renember how it was fitted.
(Drawings, pictures are welcome. If any have pictures of it then my private e-mail is sfa@esenet.dk)

Kind regards

Mine was missing when I first bought the car. Not owning a Corvette previously I did not know what the the norm should be. After fitting the air dam I noticed a significant difference in engine heat both inside the car and on the temperature gauge.

the front air dam (chin) is held in place by bolting/screwing it to the adjoining sections of the front end. There are approximately 12-14 screws that hold it in place. The replacement air dams are not pre-drilled so if you have a repalcement you will have to drill it. Then there is a rubber spoiler that attaches to the chin piece that is held in place by 10-12 bolts mounting to a thin metal on the backside of the chin.

Yes this piece is needed and does cool the car significantly.

Thanks,

I am all Presume I have to buy some parts again....I only have the glasfiber piece, but in my memory I can recall there was some additional parts which I removed at that time. I just need a picture of how it looks when it is complete.....have tried to put the piece up to the bumper and I does not make any sence so I miss some parts.

Kind regards

The flat side bolts up against the bottom of the radiator support. I believe four bolts. the ends are bolted to the rubber fromt bumper. The smoothe rounded side faces up. Hope that helps. I had to repair and install mine last weekend.

Use 71rdstr's link and look at page 89 part #7449. That is the piece to which I was referring. That must be in place to pull air into radiator at speed, otherwise temps will rise.
