The windows on my 80 are loose or wiggle if you grab the top and move them back and forth. There is about a 11/2 inch worth of side to side movement at the top. What do I need to do to repair this? I have looked at a "Window track lift arm rebuild kit" from Ecklers. Should this do the trick or is it something else? Thanks
Try adjusting, refitting or replacing the bumpers first, small foam and fur covered guides that attach to the inner window frame and put outward pressure on the window so it seats against the wiper strip.
I recently refit mine by using a fabric adhesive to attach two layers of some thin carpet pieces (the type of material used to cover speaker boxes) to the original...worked like a charm. This will require you take off the inner door panel but access is easy once removed. Hour job at most...
The interior is now gutted, and I have replaced the window guides and adjusted them all the way and I have still got the shaking windows. The guides were my first thought and because that would have been the easiest solution. Of course, I never get the easy answer. any other thoughts. Thanks
I replaced the rubber with metal backed seal that runs along the top of the door (both ouside and inside of the glass) and this fixed my problem. This seal keeps water running down the glass from getting in the door. I think Chicago Corvette has them.
The attachment of the window to the track may also be loose. On my 81, I've had to tighten these a couple of times. I also plan to replace them because they seem pretty hard. Could be that they deteriorate over time as well.
