Default 750 too much carb for this setup?

350 bored .030, flat top forged pistons, Edelbrock RPM heads 64cc 2.02 1.94 valves (intake runners have been cleaned up but that shouldn't matter), cam 234/244 @.050, lift .488/.510 lobe 112deg.

I talked with Edelbrock b4 I bought the carb thinking it was too much, friends and I thought 750 would be but tech at Edelbrock said 750 is what they tune the rpm package too. Mind you I am at an altitude of 4500 feet.

Problem I am having is vacuum is only 8 in, (nothing hooked to manifold and I have found no vacuum leaks) I can get it to 10 were it will stay for a min then idle drops and I loose it.

Also I am only getting 18deg mechanical advance....but thats a different sore spot

As said above, 750 is good. Tuning the carb to your car is the key no-matter what carb you end up using, get yourself a calibration kit for the carb and study up on tuning, its really not that difficult once you understand. Your low vacume is caused by the cam, I'm not an expert but went through the same question with mine and was told it was normal. Also the vacume gauge will be a little eratic also because of the loppy cam.

i have that cam and was told to junk it. Its too big for a low compression motor and it does not perform well under about 3200 rpms.

A 750cfm q-jet is WAY different than a 750cfm carter. Apple and orange.

With my set up I should be at 10.4:1, I wouldn't exactly call that low compression. Besides it is a total top end package from Edelbrock so everything should be "matched".

You will hold less at 4500 ft due to altitude. Should be able to tune around it. I lived in Denver for about 5 years and it's not too tough to get them right.

As long as you have a dual plain manifold you can run the 750 or
even bigger, dual plain manifolds like big carbs.

I've had this cam and 'downgraded' to Edelbrock's Performer cam. The RPM cam is a little too much for street driving, it doesn't perform under 3000 rpm. It's pretty nice between 3500 and 6000....

get a hydroboost and pull the headlights manually..... who needs vacuum ? Vaccum sux
