Default 383 stroker advice

Bought parts a while back to rebuild top end of my '77 L48 for more power,-
edeldrock rpm 64cc heads
edelbrock eps manifold
670 street avenger
mild voodoo cam
hardend push rods
roller tip rockers.

But now the more i read about 383's, the more i want one

I figured by the time i buy a stroker kit, have someone clearance/install it into my L48 block, i could get a complete rebuilt stroker short block for near enough the same money and leave the original engine complete and put it to one side.

Looking to build a fast street car with bags of torque. My vette is a '77 with 4-speed borgW and 3:55 rear gears.

Looking @ motor around 10-1/10.5- CR when built.

Questions(bear with me,first build)-

Is this inlet going to strangle it,or will it be ok for now? OR go with edel rpm inlet? hood clearance?
(want a rpm air gap,but hi rise hood/paint job is a future project)

Should i go with a 770 street avenger,or stick with the 670, as holley say 300hp+ =670, 400hp+ = 770. Im guessing the motor will make around 400hp

Would like to go with another voodoo cam, what size to look for. Any stroker clearance issues?

Any thing else to consider/look for?

Any advice much appreciated.

A 77 can clear a edelbrock RPM manifold with a drop base air cleaner.
The 770 would be a better carb for a 383. As for a cam for a 383
with 4 speed and 3.55s I would use a cam with intake dur. at .050
230 or around 280 adv duration on the intake.

My 388 stroker is my original engine, rebuilt. It cost me no more than a standard rebuild and the engine needed it at that time. However, this was done in 1994 before the booming popularity and lower cost of today's crate engines. If I do it again, I would definitely go the crate stroker route.....you can order your engine with mega cubes for the same price as a good rebuild.

Make a 383. An internal balance Scat cast 383 crank and a set of SpeedPro H859CP30 -12cc dished pistons will put you at 9.7:1 or higher w/64cc heads ... new crank, pistons & rings under $500. Your cam may well be sufficient ... you didn't post cam specs? 670 carb & eps intake are plenty. If you use your rods w/your voodoo cam, rods'll need to be cam-clearanced ... your block will probably need a small amount of clearancing too. Zero-deck block, bore & hone, clearancing, new cam bearings installed machine shop total should be under $500 ... balancing another $150 or so. Felpro 1003 gaskets with zero-deck, 859 pistons & 64cc heads will put CR right at 10.2:1. If you have matching number motor & if you deck block... instruct the machine shop to AVOID your stamped number pad.

Looked at rebuilding/stroking original block etc,
but importing a complete short block here into the UK will run me near enough the same cost as rebuilding/stroking the L48 block, only difference being is i get to keep my original engine aswell, for future no. matching( ) or mild rebuild for another car-whatever,plus save time and potential problems etc.

Want to build the rest of the engine myself though, so dont want to go with a full crate engine- plus the fact i already forked for these heads.

Cam specs, one ive got- voodoo dur@.050 213/219, lift in/ex .454/.468, rpm 1000-5500.

What im looking at-voodoo- 219/227, .468/.489, 1400-5800.
OR
voodoo- "268cam" 227/233, .489/.504, 1800-6200.
OR
voodoo- 233/241, .504/525, 2200-6400.
clearance issues?

would an RPM inlet fit with a lt1 style base/3" filter/k&n open lid?

Is the EPS inlet + 670 carb going to hold it back that much?

Unless you've already bought nice 1.5 rockers ... Keep your voodoo cam & buy 1.6 rockers ... new specs w/ 1.6 RAR will be right at 215/221, .484/.500 ... no clearance issues w/ rpm heads

Dunno, someone else'll have to answer.
