I am doing a complete R&R on my front suspension and am having a hard time locating bushings of the right size. I've ordered the standard bushings from GM and the poly from Van Steel. Neither one of them fit right. So, I'm looking through my AIM and I find a rear stabilizer bar. Wha?...I don't have one of those!!!
So...should I get one? I did a little autocross and didn't feel anything wrong...the rear end felt solid as a rock.
I'm suspecting that the rear brackets and bushings were used on the front which would make since that the GM front bushings were too small...not sure it that is what happened or not...any thoughts or experiences?
My 72 L48 car didn't come with a rear sway bar. They were part of the F41 or FE7 Gymkhana suspension packages and also possibly used in Big block cars.
If you or anyone else is interested I have a new or like new genuine GM 7/16 rear bar with most of the mounting hardware $100+UPS BUT e-mail direct!! redvetracr@msn.com

Factory rear sway is used in BB cars only. It's also possable that the front sway that you have is aftermarket. You didn't say if what you have is smaller or larger than factory bushings. Measure the bar, and order bushings accordingly.
When I bough my 72, previous owner installed 1-1/8" sways front & rear. My car handles like it's on rails. ABSOLUTLY NO body lean in the curves. I thing he autocrossed it....

Thanks redvetracr, but I'm thinking that if it didn't have it there to begin with then I'm not going to worry about it right now.
Edzred72: The front bar is 7/8" and the hole in the stock bushings do fit my bar.
fauxrs2: My build sheet didn't list the FE7 package or any other suspension upgrade. However, when I had to replace my differential I discovered that the original owner (I'm the 3rd owner) had replaced the differential with a 3.55 unit and installed heavy duty half-shafts and yokes. I'm thinking that it was done when the original owner converted the automatic tranny to manual 4-speed. It appears to have been converted at the dealer since all of the equipment is genuine GM...though back then I suppose everything for the vettes were genuine GM.
