After a really hot summer I have decided that the vette really needs to get some AC to be ready for next year. I have been looking for aftermarket AC systems as the 69 did not come with it originally. I have found a complete system from Ecklers that is about $1,000 plus my time to install it. I checked with Vintage Air and they do not offer a C3 kit. If anyone has added AC, or knows someone who has, or has any advise or recommendations to offer please chime in. I am looking for all the input I can get before I start this mod. Thanks in advance.
You might try calling Chisenhall Auto Air & Truck. They are also in San Antonio, Texas. I plan to give their kit a try early next year. Their phone number is 210 654 6398. Let us know what you decide.
I have been thinking about this also. Let us know what you find out and if you do it how hard it is to install. Also if it looks factory in the interior.
thanks
John
No one I can find sells anything that looks like factory air. Vintage Air sells a kit that look factory but they do not offer it for C3 model years. Every other kit I have seen is an add on unit that fits under the passenger side dash. It is not bad looking but it does look like an add on. Whatever I find out I will post. Thanks.
You'll probably almost have to anyway, but go for for the R-134 or R-134a kits. It's a lot cheaper than the old R-12 stuff when it comes to recharge/service.
I've heard that the Vintage Air universals work real well on C3s using the original dash air vents. Also their units supposedly are much more effective at cooling the car than the factory units.
