Default Tail light issue

I put on four tail lights some years ago, but know when I step on the brake on light goes out and the other 3 get brighter. I replaced the bulb and have the same problem. Is it the socket or wiring problem.

all lights are on when driving lights are on also

Jeff

My problem was with the headlights on and the right turn signal, the lights would alternate. Changed the socket and prob went away!!!

My tail lights do strange things when I apply the brakes and my indicators come and go (fuses OK, flasher TBD)...grounding issue seems likely.

How are the sockets normally grounded? Are y'all suggesting adding an extra wire to the wiring in each of the sockets that is then physically attached to the frame? Can they all be gathered and tied into a single wire then attached to the frame? Thoughts?

Thanks

There is a ground wire connected to the outside part of the light socket that routs thru the harness and connects to the frame. It is black I think, so you need to check the connection at the socket and the other end where it connects to the frame. I believe there are 3 places on the back and 2 on the front where the grounds connect to the frame, remove, clean, grease and reconnect them.

I have four lights in the back and each has a ground wire that attaches to the stud on the light and that wire goes into the harnes. One wire comes out of the harnes and attaches to the frame.

Is this correct??

could be, all the 4 socket grounds may tie together in the harness and only one needed to go to the frame

All rear lighting is grounded together. Should be connected to frame or rear crossmember. More than likely its a bad or dirty socket causeing
the problem. Which in turn could be a bad ground or poor connection
in the socket. Thats what it was on my 78 and I had those same symptoms.
