John, not sure exactly how a button style connector is going to help on your temp sensor, doesn't it have a "male" blade sticking out of it? and then the connecting wire should have a "female" piece?
as a telco cable splicer i can tell you that the buttons we use are made by 3M,and are for solid copper wire 19 to 26 guage,a 2-way botton is called a UY2 and a 3 way botton is called a UR2. these will work only on solid copper wire, not stranded wire,if used on stranded wire it will work but in time the "u" shape piece of metal inside the button will cut through the stranded wires. the best i can think of on stranded wire is to slip a shrink wrap over the wire, gently twist them together and flow some solder on them, slide the shrink wrap over the splice and heat it with a hair dryer or lighter. i had to do this with many wires running in my console, since "bubba" didn't have a clue what he was doing.

Are you looking for a terminal for a connection that looks like the head of a nail on the top of the temperature sender, or for the plastic cover that is on the end of the wire that goes to the sender?

Bubba cut off the end of the connector so I really don't know exactly what it looks like. I think it is the same connector as the TSC switch on the transmission. It looks like a small press on "button".

Gary79 - On the early sharks the temp sending unit had a small buttonhead plug not the blade type as on the later years. The wire was stranded so I guess the General :chevy used a different type than what you are reffuring to.

blu73 - Since :smash: Bubba cut off the end I need both the connector and the cover.

A friend of mine told me about this web site http://www.vinwire.com.au/
I am going to check it out
Thanks for your help and if you find anything pleas let me know.
John

If I recall correctly, the TCS connection is a pair of blade type terminals in a "V" configuration of about 90 degrees angle from one another. The engine temp sender for your gauge in the center panel is probably mounted in the driver side head and has a single connection that looks like the head of a nail. Which one are we talking about? The TCS switch on my L-48 is in the passenger side head just above the starter.

I need to clearify...I am not working on the TSC system sorry for the misunderstanding. I am refrenceing (sp) the TSC switch because it looks to have the same type of connector on it as the temp guage sensor. I was talking about the switch on the tranny itself (4 speed) blu73 you are correct on the TCS temp sensor being 2 blade in a L pattern. My guage temp sensor is on was on the driver's side head until I put the ZZ4 in it. The temp boss on the new engine is smaller that the old iron head. I have tried several temp sensors (for the guage) in the head and none of them worked properly. I wanted the sensor in the head for a more accurate reading. My old sensor will fit in a boss in the intake near the thermostat so for now I have it there but as I said above Bubba cut off the "button" on the wiring harness that comes off the alternator area and I am looking for that connector. Right now I have safety wire holding it together and it works fine justs looks bad IMO.
Thanks guys
John

I think I found my connector. I was looking in Corvette Central's catalog to order a new temp sensor and in it they also list 68-78 wire insulation with terminal. It's only $6.80 so if it is wrong I won't be out too much. Russ, If it is not correct I will let you know so you can go through your magic box of connectors......thanks

I also need that connector for my temp switch. I believe it is called a thumbtack connector. I used a U-shaped terminal for the time being bending the tangs on the U. I haven't had time to go to the auto parts stores to look for the right one.

The Wanderer,
I ordered my new temp sensor and the "insulation with terminal" today from Corvette Central. Its on page 49 of catalog 3B P/N 661294. When it gets here I'll let you know if it is the right one. I think its called either a thumbtack or button connector depending on whom you talk to.
