I have been trying to fix this FOREVER!!! I have a Carter 625 cfm (exactly the same as an edelbrock) and it runs fine in all respects unless I am trying to power thru a corner, then it bogs hard. I have messed with the metering rods and nothing runs as well as the rods the carb came with. I installed the largest float seat and needle and adjusted the floats to spec for the larger seats. And I just recently went to a one step (395, I think) smaller primay jet. It still happens. Only in the corners. My plugs look as clean as the day I bought em almost. My fuel pressure is about 6.5 psi. My timing (MSD) is set to curve in as early as possible without pinging. I want to go autocrossing this weekend and I think this will kill my times unless I am REALLY light on the pedal, which is fine, but I should be able to mash it as hard as I want to...
Any advice is appreciated,
Chris
PS...I don't know what cam I have (I will change it eventually) but the idle is VERY lumpy and my idle vacuum is right around ten inches and steady.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (71roadster)
Well I'd say you have a carb problem...I don't know the right terms but must have somthing with the bowls...anyway I guess I'll let the experts go at this.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (71roadster)
I believe that Rock'n'Roll (or something like that) was having this problem and the only thing he could come up with to fix the problem was to switch to fuel injection.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (71roadster)
I've experienced the carb totally cutting out on me on a left hand turn. Edelbrock recommends max fuel pressure of 5 psi(?can't remember exactly) or else it makes your floats go out of whack. I rebuilt that carb and noticed that the floats were out of whack. I installed a pressure regulator after and tried the carb out for short while with apparent success. Hope this helps.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (MassVette)
AFB the old name for your carb will not work during hard cornering. The float design will not allow it. You can lower the floats slightly, run less fuel pressure { they don't need alot} but the problem is still there. Like the previous post said that is why Holley made center pivot carbs.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (71roadster)
I have the #1406 (600cfm) and never had that problem. I do have a pressure regulator on it set at 5 lbs. Maybe you have to step up the (I forget the name/term now) "booster" rod one notch? Call Edelbrock..see what they say.
Re: Edelbrock carb bogs in hard corners...HELP??? (71roadster)
AFB type carbs are all subject to that problem, there is no cure....one glaring weakness of the design, otherwise it's a damn good carb....personally, I never had the problem years ago on the street, and I drove hell of them then....
but not autocrossing....
