USGP - Who's going?
Before you guys say this is off topic, let me add that I plan to put the ole '74 on the road and drive it to Indy, and Indianapolis is 900+ miles from here! Any tips or words of caution for driving such a long distance in an old car, or does anyone want to talk me out of this? :jester
Anyway, I'd like to know who is going? Who will drive the Vette to Indy? Maybe we could meet on Saturday after the qualifying, or something like that...

Where are the F1 fans?
9 views only--two of which were me, and the other 7 probably people that thought this was another group purchase... :p:

Add towing to your insurance coverage.
Start with some smaller (200 - 300) mile trips first.
Take tools, oil, water, hose repair kits, spare belts, etc.

And the formula one fans are about 2000 miles away in Phoenix -- not driving to indy.

Good luck Pedro, although I would more concerned about my back hurting then the car failing.

Bryan: Thanks for the tips! I do have AAA Plus. Will take a cell phone, and lots of tools. I guess the gas won't let me drive too many miles in a roll...
Gary: Bryan has already answered, but that's it: Unites States Grand Prix of Formula 1. I went last year, and it was a blast. Indy is one of the coolest F1 circuits in the world! Not that I've been to a lot of them ... I've been to Jacarepagua (Rio), Interlagos (Sao Paulo), Montreal and Indy.

If you're serious, I do have two extra tickets, but we'd have to sell the other one at a premium to help pay for the travel expenses... :D

lucky you that get to go there in a Vette!
What else could you ask for!
Hope to see JP Montoya win once in for all after the frustrating start at Spa.
I wouldn't find that at all bad, but I'm Schumacher all the way!

So... what teams do you guys support? I'm a McLaren fan (due to growing up in Woking) but am embarrassed to admit that after their performance this year :mad In fact, I'll support any team that isn't Ferrari!! Williams have a good car this year (but the reliability is bad) & Montoya is well worth watching, he deserves to win a race. Hope it's a good race: ones like Hungary where they can't overtake are mind-numbingly boring - what's the point of watching a race if the only way they can overtake is by having a faster pit stop?
I'm a little oldfashioned, in the sense that my favorite team no longer exists: Lotus! I'm a huge fan of Colin Chapman, and u gotta love those black and gold cars!

(This pic was taken at Indy, last year.)

Maybe one day I'll be able to make the USGP. From what I've seen of it on the TV the spectators get a good view of the track. When I was at Monza I could only see the corner I was sitting at & the track leading up to it. Once the pit stops started it was hopeless trying to keep track of who was where! But one thing that you get for real is the sound - the TV just doesn't give any idea how cool they sound when they shut down & the exhausts start to crackle  And the McLaren Merc has the meanest growl of them all :D
If you go, have a good time, wear a Vette T-shirt & I'll keep an eye out for you on UK TV

Unfortunately I was too young when Emerson Fittipaldi was driving the black and gold car, and not yet interested in F1 when Andretti won the '78 championship with that amazing Lotus 78. But I was lucky enough to see them during the Nigel Mansell/Elio de Angelis era! :D
One of the cool things that happened at Indy last year was the "historic car parade"--it was great to see all those classic cars where they belong--on the track!

UKPaul: I was in England earlier this year and we stopped at Silverstone to see if we could vist or anything. It was late June (late in IOM race week) about 9:00 p.m. and the guard let us walk inside to see the track. He then asked if we would be around the next week, as ALL the teams and ALL the drivers would be there to sort out their tires. FREE ADMISSION! Sadly, we couldn't stay, but you might want to check it out if you're ever over that way sometime.
I'd love to go to the USGP in our vette! I live in Montreal and wouldn't hesitate to make the trip to the Indy GP. Making it al the way might be a different story...I might leave a coupld of days in advance :D. Is there a number I can call to reserve tickets for the USGP 2002 season? Over 60% of F1 viewers watch it for Ferrari...and I'm one of them :D . I'm totally looking forward for next season though as we'll see a lot more :boxing between Ferrari, McLaren(hopefully) and Williams.
