headers and heat risers
I bought some headers for my 73 L48 that I have been working on. When I removed the exhaust manifolds I noticed that there was a heat riser valve in line on the passenger side. Does anyone know if I need to put in a heat riser valve in line with the headers I am putting on?

The heat riser goes away when you install headers. That is part of the EFE system that is designed to warm up the engine quickly after a cold start. You can now block the heat riser passage at the intake manifold (as long as you run an aluminum intake). The warm up will take a few minutes longer this way but that is part of the sacrifice of running headers.
If you have an iron intake, you probably won't be thrilled with a blocked heat riser. The engine will take a LONG time to warm up fully.
