found car battery dead 2 days ago .recharged and getting 14.3 vdc at battery terminals with engine running.
battery is new btw.
next morning dead battery again!
recharged and did a bit of troubleshooting.
when i disconnect the positive lead i hear a click in the dash console area?
what can the culprit be?
my next step is to pull fuses 1 at a time to narrow it down.
Bet ya a steak dinner the wiper motor is jammed. Feel the motor..is it hot? The clicking you hear is the wiper relay. If you bumped the wiper switch with the ignition on, but the wiper door and wipers did not complete a full cycle, the wiper motor won't shut down. Even if you turn the key off. A flaw in the design. You need to open the wiper door and get the wipers to cycle and park.
ill try that
hmm i also noticed that i have to nudge the wipers down a bit so the wiper door sits flush .
i might have to reposition the wiper arms aswell.
My 68 had the exact same issue that you describe. Reach up behind the tach and feel for the wiper door solenoid. There should be an electrical connection it as well as 2 vac connections. I bet you it is warm to the touch (with the battery connected of course). Have a helper disconnect the batt while you have your hand on the solenoid. You should hear/feel it click. If this is the case, you need to check the park swtich for the wipers. Does your wiper door work OK, or does it stay up?

Wiper relay under the console...up in front of the ashtray.
If your door isn't down, the wipers may not be parked "all the way", keeping the circuit open. Chuck
