the filter between the intake and the boosters can leak vac as can the hose .the filter is cheap and was bought at autozone ,take in the old one [they dont sell many of these ]check all connections.
Anyone had any experiences with check valves in these things ? 78 SA in this case...was wondering before I go buy a new booster...
(got a real hard pedal)...brakes were great until suddenly lost the assist...vacuum line/filter ok...

If the engine was still running, you should still have had vacuum (boost). I believe the check valve (CV) is there so if the engine quits, you'll still have vacuum in the booster to stop the car (also maintains a constant vacuum in the booster). If you confirmed that vacuum gets through the CV, then it sounds like the booster is kaput.

You are correct..I did the "standard" test for that...thing that peeves me is the original one lasted 23 years..the replacement in there now is only 4 years old...I was hoping it was something simple and hose/filter ok...
Thanks...wrench time tomorrow...

If you have a vac leak @ the booster or the hose you would hear it .. Nasty hissing sound , and will also cause engine drivability problems due to a vac leak.

Good point..(I myself did not consider engine/vacuum performance.).runs great..
No hiss or miss...just HARD brake...stood there today listening while it warmed up...even pulled that filter and blew thru it...booster is history..
Thanks guys...

The check valves can be purchased at any of the auto supply chains for a couple bucks.
I tested my vac booster by just sucking on the hose and comparing it to the one on my new daily driver Colorado! I know, go ahead and laugh, but it becomes immediately apparent if there is a leak in the booster. I initially tried my "Mightyvac", and that works also, it just doesn't pull much volume per stroke.
The prices were great compared to other places. Everything bolted right up. Granted, I've only had them on for a couple of months and several thousand miles, but so far, so good.

Thanks for that link to Piratejack. Never heard of them before but they look like they have some nice product at decent prices. I like the anodized finish on your booster in the picture. How does it look up close right in front of you? Does it look like it will last some time especially on a car that may not be driven much? Just curious. Was thinking of sending the power booster on my 67' out to be anodized but for the price this place is getting for a new one this may be the better way to go for the money.

I actually discovered them on Ebay. Some of their prices are different on Ebay, compared to their website. Compare them, and if you mention it to them, they will honor the lowest price.
I was very happy with their customer service and speed. Very nice folks to deal with.
As far as the finish. I saved a few bucks and bought the rough finish MC and spent a few hours shining it up. It's not billet but it's a substantial chunk of aluminum.
As for the Booster finish. I don't see why it won't last. As far as I can tell, it's the same anodized finish (can't remember what it's called right now) used on the rear spring bolts, and other metal items around the car. Like any finish, it can be scratched, and if it's down to bare metal, rust can begin to form.
I like the look of the booster, now I just need someone to donate some coated headers so they don't stand out so badly!
Update: Booster rebuilt, installed, brakes working great..could not find rubber boot for clutch shaft,so when I do it will go in the hard way...from underneath the vette if necessary....
Where did you find the rebuild parts? and how difficult was it to rebuild the brake booster?
Got help....a friend helped me as he has done them before...so I dropped it off and he dis-assembled it while I went looking for a for a boot for my clutch rod...he had some kits from MBM...
