The original color of my 71 was white and i've always wanted a black vette,is it possible to get a good paint job in black that will show very little imperfections?? or should i stick to white
I have a white vet and a black Z-28. The thing about black is it's so hard to keep clean. If you wash it the next day a layer of dust will make it look dirty again. If you don't mind that go for it. :jester
My original colour was white, a prior owner painted it black, last owner before me restored it to white. I can't imagine it other than the original colour so if I had a vote, I'd leave it the colour it left the factory. However, the nice thing is the only vote that counts is yours and if you want it black, get a quality job and enjoy it!!
Black LOOKS AWESOME.......but....wouldn't u rather keep it the original color.??..Considering how black cars do show imperfections it may look better white.....I do know that black get's hot and c-3's seem to generate enuf heat on their own......... :D
A nice Black vette is hard to beat! But Black will show every little thing, and your body better be excellent before applying the color. There's simply things in the white you can't see, but they will stick out under black primer. It just takes alot of time and patience to get a black job you'll be proud of. BUT, it definitley turns heads, and will probably attract alot of attention, if done right. I'd say go for it, if that's what you want.
I don't know about your '71, but my '69 was rather "wavy" even in spots where it hadn't had any body repairs done on it. If you really want a black car to look great, be prepared to work the whole body for quite some time to remove every little wave, ripple, and bump. Not to mention the bonding seams that run the length of the fenders front and rear. Once you do all this and get a perfectly smooth foundation for the shiny black paint, you will have essentially eliminated the originality of the body such that an NCRS judge would deduct for "over-restoration" even if you repainted it white later.
Black will also show every little scratch and chip as it ages. White is the most forgiving color when it comes to scratches and dust.
Other than that, I think it's fine to do what you want to with your car. If you want black and know what it's going to take to make it look great, then go for it. Personally, if I had a '71 that I was changing the color on, it'd be Steel Cities Grey in a New York Minute!
We had our '71 vette painted black and it looks awesome! It was done professionally (no waves, perfect reflections etc.). The only time you'll notice any imperfections is if you're holding a light and going over the car inch by inch. You can eliminate those waves by buffing the car really well. Black looks great with the chrome bumpers, grills etc...especially at night! Every C3 I see that isn't black has virtually all the chrome painted to the body color (except for the bumpers of course) which I really don't like. Yeah, it gets dirty in the garage pretty quick. If the first comment that someone makes about your car is "it's dirty" then you know where they can go :jester . Just kidding. Anyway, check out our website for pics of our black '71 vette. http://pages.infinit.net/cybergem/corvette.html
mine is black, so is the ineterior, and with no AC, its like a sauna. when I repaint it next week I'm going to lighter color. If your ac is broke, or if you don't have AC(like me), then you should keep it a light color until you get AC, or fix yours(unless your in the north, then a dark color might be nice in late autom early spring)
My 1971 454 is black with a with rag top and it looks great when it is clean. It is not hard to keep it clean if you do not drive it every day. I love balck cars and also have an Audi A4 that I drive every day. I wash it 1-2 a week and it usually great. I you like black, paint it back and have it clear coated. It will turn heads.
Thanks Guys for the replys thats why i love this forum
Black is the color of choice ONLY because I will have working air and i live in florida so i need it anyway Thanks again
BTW a Black C3 rolling down south beach on a cool sunny day is my kind of ride!!!!!!!
I was in south beach about 2 months ago in my uncles 911 carrara drop-top. It was quite fun considering the Playboy volley-ball tourney was going on at the same time. I only saw one C3 down there, and even driving the $90K porshe, I still stoped and let him go. I saw literally 63 2001 rustang convertibles down there :U . He lives up in boca raton, this was around when that jet landed on 95 near the airport down there(larafax or whatever its called). What a great vacation that was. I'll be back next summer for sure.
God blessed south beach and all the top-less bunnies down there!!!!!
