fuel problem?
Finally got my antique registration for the car I bought on July 5 and actually got to drive it legally last night. I have only been taking short 4 or 5 mile runs and it seemed to work good. I drove it 12 miles to the nearest gas station last night to fill it up and the first 10 miles with no stop signs went well. I didn't even get on it at all but cruised 45 to 55 mph. Got to the stop sign and pulled out turning left still not getting on it at all and it started to sputter like it was starving for fuel. got off the gas and back on and it went again. As long as I didn't feed it more pedal it would run but eventually would start to sputter even with little throttle. Idled while filling it with gas and limped it the 12 miles back home. At no time could I get the 4 barrell to kick on because it would bog if I gave it even 1/4 throttle. But I'd bump it into neutral, rev it a few times, bump it back into gear and I could go a few more miles before it started to sputter/bog. Did this all the way home. Dirt in the carb? (Q-jet) Oil pressure and temp were steady the whole way. Bad fuel pump? Filter? I'm going to run it again tonight and see how I make out.

first thing i would check is the little filter inside the carb where the fuel lines connects ( they still have those little metal filters?).Then check any other fuel filters.They ,once removed, should be easy to blow thru. A bog, when opened up, many times is the accelerator pump going bad,or occasionaly a vacum leak.Check for good fuel flow first.( thrash/rust in the tank?)
