Default gas tank cleaning

i can see some old gas sitting in the tank bottom. is it possible to unhook the gas line from the tank and just blow this old stuff out? I don't want to take the tank out. i'm thinking...unhook the line, place a cover over the filler and use my air compressor to supply flow...? good/bad???

thanks

Just clean it like you would a fish tank--the suction method-start a siphon and let it go into a bucket--I do it on ever tune up -I vacumn the bottom of the tank just in case of water or crud on bottom of tank--I have a 2 foot piece of 3/8 copper connected to 3/8 fuel line with a boat gas bulb primer and more 3/8 hose- pump a little to start siphon and let it flow--put more fuel in to get cleaner---DONT USE YOUR WIFES VACUMN CLEANER-IT MIGHT BLOW UP---and if it doesnt she'll kick your a$$ so you lose both ways

I've used this method for making sure that my fuel lines were clear of crappy old gas in cars that have been sitting for long periods. Just use the standard common sense precautions. Stale old gas is a flame hazard even if your car won't fire on it.

just unhook the fuel line below the tank before the fuel rail and feed it into an empty can or bucket. then, I put a little fresh gas (a gallon or two) into the tank and let that run out also. I've done this with my car before with no problems. I just left the cap off- no compressed air. Gravity will make it work just fine.

In the tank, the fuel line on the end of the sending unit has a filter called a "sock" or a "strainer". So letting the fuel line pour into a bucket or something won't work. You really need to remove the tank.

Good ideas for me too! Where do you get a "boat gas bulb"?

Thanks

There is a special tool to remove the locking collar but...
it can be removed without the tool.
Got mine off quite easily with a drift and hammer.
Simply drove it around knocking on one tab at a time til it let go.
