Default Another Wiper Door Problem

The wiper door on my 72 decided it was going to stop working today. It will not come up even if the bypass under the steering wheel is used. I can put the wiper switch in the on position and lift the door by hand and it will stay up. If I put the switch in the off position, the wipers go into place and the door closes properly. Anyone had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like there is a problem with either the wiper door canister, the relay that controls it, or a line in between. The wiper door canister should have 2 vacuum lines going to it -- one towards the fire wall, the other on the other side. When you turn your wipers on, check to see if the one towards the fire wall has vacuum. If it does, you probably have a bad canister. If not, check that vacuum line down to the relay bolted to the inner fender. The problem should be either with the line or that relay.

The wipers are working again. The nut on the shaft going into the actuator was loose. It was causing the actuator seal to come out of place just enough to make the wiper door stay down. A simple adjustment and everything is like new.
