my 76 corvette has a weird front end problem . when ever i am driving down the road and i hit some road turbulance the whole car goes out of wack! the steering wheel goes into a uncontrolable vibration and the steering is almost unresponsive, also u can feel the trany shacking and can hear the engine shacking. the only way to make it stop is to push in the clutch and touch the brakes till the car settles down. i took the car to the shop and had all the bearings replace so it cant be that, and i am completly stumped. i would really apriciate some advice!!
Shocks, bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, motor mounts, transmission mounts, steering knuckle, loose nuts and bolts on the above.
Get it up on a jack and take a look, see whats going on
OK, if you have power steering, is the assist end mounted to the frame solid?? from the horizontal hydraulic ram....that whole assy also acts as a steering damper, if you have manual steering you well may need a damper, assuming you find nothing else loose,
it's not all that commom a symptom, but vairious vechicles can develop that shaking after some wear, and find no parts actually defective, or even worn, I had a 3/4 ton van do that years ago, steering dampers mount like a horizontal shock absorber from frame to main drag link...
