Finally got my horn to work but only partially. Horns are new, all the wires are connected but when I push the horn button, only the upper horn works. Is it a ground problem? Green wire into the lower horn is hot as is the upper. Anybody have any suggestions? thanks, Gary
My wife just pulled the vette into the garage and the horn is going off, like she's honking the horn, not one continous sound. I'm definitely waking up the neighborhood Any suggestions?

Sounds like your alarm system fired off. My friends 81 does it all the time for no reason. Unhook the battery if you can't get at the horns to pull the wires easily. Then look for alarm problems. I don't know where you should start, but there is a lot on the forum about it. Good luck.
The alarm and horn has never worked since we've had the vette and I don't have a key for the alarm. But the lower horn is pretty warm so I don't think it's grounded. I will check that. The upper horn green wire, the connections seems loose. I was thinking that starting the car could cause a vibration that could set the horn off? I disconnected that and pushed the horn button and the lower horn honks in distress. Electrical issues....ugh! Just trying to fix one more thing that does not work.
I know it's late, just came in from the garage which I sweated thru 3 t-shirts today. Final out come from my horn issues. Both horns work but I took a short ride thru the subdivsion and the horn would blow on its own with every bump in the street.I felt like I was in a wedding caravan. Shut the door, horn went off.Smoother, faster, no ghost horn. Horn button work all over but to stop the horn from blasting, I have to press down on the entire button. I disconnected the battery tonight in case the horn started to blow on its own. I know there's a short somewhere, any suggestions? I don't thinks it's the alarm but you guys know more than me. I really appreciate your help. Thanks, Gary

Gary,
My 82 horn button did that after my 2 year old grandson pounded on it. The little nylon rivets that hold the contact ring broke off and the ring just rattled around making contact intermittantly while driving or even touching the wheel. I just popped the horn button off and the whole works fell apart in my lap. The rivets I replaced by cutting the tops off plastic golf tees, then melting one end to form a "head". Then after pushing each (of three) through the assembly, held everything tight with small clamps and melted the other end of each to form the other head. I just used a soldering gun, tho a heated screwdriver tip would do it. I am assuming the horn ring assemblies are similar in earlier years. Good luck. Ain't it fun?
