Just went out and looked at my 81. It's about as far back as where where the oil pan goes from shallow to deep, on the block just above the oil pan. Your exhaust may be hiding it. God bless, Sensei

there are two drain plugs on either side of the block located in the middle of the block just behind the engine mounts, these will allow you to drain all of the coolant from the block.
they are small, 1/4 inch square headed bolts or close to that as i reacall.
